Champions League - European Power Rankings: Milan lead Italian chargeEurosport - Tue, 12 Jan 12:52:00 2010

Italian sides were the big movers in our continental form guide over the past week, but French champions Bordeaux remain top.
With many leagues around the continent still on mid-season breaks, and the Premier League reduced to just two matches that contribute to our rankings, there was plenty of opportunity for the sides in action to move up the chart.
The chief beneficiaries were Italian clubs, with four of the five Serie A clubs involved in Europe moving up our table after they played twice in a week.
Fiorentina followed their 5-1 win at Siena with a win over Bari, and Sevilla's surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Racing Santander helped move La Viola up two places to eighth.
David Beckham's return to Milan has helped them go from strength to strength, with the Rossoneri thrashing Genoa 5-2 and then humbling supposed rivals Juventus 3-0 in Turin.
Milan move two places up to 20th, while Dutch table-toppers Twente are right behind them. Steve McClaren's side did not play, but Olympiacos dropped two places after only picking up three points from a possible six this week.
Internazionale continue to do just enough to scrape wins, as their 1-0 win over Chievo was followed by a last-gasp 4-3 win over Siena. However, points are points, and they move up one place to 13th, while Roma's four points from six available see them step up to 25th.
Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid both won, but their respective draws the previous week saw them both miss out on the chance to leapfrog second-placed Chelsea, whose match at Hull was postponed due to the snow.
Manchester United and Arsenal both had a chance to close the gap, but they were held to a share of the points this weekend, meaning the top seven remains the same.
Valencia's win at Xerez moved them above the static Werder Bremen and Shakhtar, while Athletic Bilbao's draw at Malaga sees them slide further down the table.
The week's big movers were Sporting Lisbon, whose win saw them leapforg Rubin Kazan, Fulham and Liverpool, none of whom played.

HOW IT WORKSScores are based on points per game in domestic league, Champions League and Europa games.
Domestic points per game are multiplied by the league coefficient - either 3.5, 4, 4.5 or 5 - with teams in stronger leagues getting more credit.
League coefficients:
5 - England, Italy, Spain
4.5 - Germany, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Russia
4 - Belgium, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Scotland, Romania
3.5 - Cyprus, Switzerland, Israel, Denmark, Austria
Champions League victories are counted as three points for a win. They are all multiplied by a coefficient of 5. Matches in the group stage and beyond are counted.
Champions League victories are counted as three points for a win. They are all multiplied by a coefficient of 4. Matches in the group stage and beyond are counted.
Example: Bordeaux
43 points from 19 Ligue 1 games = 2.26 points per game
Multiplied by league coefficient of 4.5 - 2.26 x 4.5 = 10.19
16 points from 6 Champions League game = 2.67 points per game.
Multiplied by European coefficient of five - 2.67 x 5 = 13.33
Total score = 10.19 + 13.33 = 23.52
